John Phan: Winner of Two Championship Bracelets at the 2008 Annual WSOP

From his hometown within the city of Long Beach in California, John Phan came into Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, to win an amazing two major poker events at the 39th Annual World Series of Poker of 2008. Accordingly, this impressive feat helped him erase a long WSOP championship drought that plagued his prestigious professional poker career. In an instant, he became an owner of two WSOP championship bracelets and became one of the most reputable poker players of all time.

Before the two world poker titles, Phan has already built a pretty solid record that included one major title at World Poker Tour, 10 WPT money finishes, as well as 15 World Series of Poker money finishes. He first saw action at WSOP during the 31st Annual WSOP, where he competed at the $500 Limit Holdem Employee Event, finishing only with the 13th best record and a measly $595. Two years after, he came back to compete at the $3,000 Limit Holdem event of the 33rd Annual WSOP, where he placed 15th overall and took home a $4,800 prize.

Since his humble start at the World Series of Poker, Phan has already accomplished various amazing feats all throughout his WSOP career. At the 36th Annual WSOP in 2005, he competed at the $5,000 Seven Stud, finishing with a nice performance that won him $72,190. After that huge finish, Phan returned to action in 2006 where he competed at the $1,000 No-Limit Holdem event of the 37th Annual WSOP, almost claiming the top spot after a second place performance that earned him a huge $289,389.

Almost every year, the level, intensity, as well as accuracy of Phan's game continues to improve. In 2007, he joined a couple of huge events at the 38th Annual World Series of Poker, namely the $2,500 Omaha/Seven Card Stud Hi-Low-8 or Better and $2,500 No-Limit Holdem poker tournaments. At the first event, he ended up with the eighth best record for a $16,922 prize. At the second event, he once again came close to win his first-ever major WSOP title after a second place performance that earned him $330,846.

In 2008, Phan competed in five major events at the 39th Annual World Series of Poker, where he did very well in all the events. At the $1,500 No-Limit Holdem event, he placed 123rd overall, while he fared much better at the $2,000 No-Limit Holdem event after a 22nd place finish. At the $1,500 Seven Card Stud Hi-Low-8 or Better event, Phan finished with a decent performance after finishing at the 50th spot. On the other hand, he was able to capture the first two WSOP championship bracelets of his career after he dominated the $3,000 No-Limit Holdem and $2,500 Limit 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball poker tournaments. His first place finish at the two major events earned him $434,789 and $151,896 respectively.
